Leathers and Colors

We use only the best leathers available.  All of our natural, bourbon and hand stained leathers are of the highest quality vegetable tanned leathers.  Our British tan, light and dark browns and black leathers are made from English Bridle Leather sourced from the Wickett & Craig tannery.

Natural Vegetable Tanned Leathers

Bags made from these leathers are made from traditional full grain natural colored vegetable tanned sides.  Colors like our rich “bourbon” and “small batch” colors are achieved by tanning the leathers in natural sunlight and adding oils to bring out the rich brown and caramel tones.  No dyes or stains are used in this process.  These colors can only be achieved with time and, naturally, can be produced much faster in the heat of the summer than in the short days of the winter.  Bags made from these leathers are appropriate for any design style and will continue to age and develop patina with use.

One of our unique design features is how we achieve our bourbon color.  If you order a bourbon colored bag from us it will take a little extra time to create.  We use the sun and oils to achieve the rich bourbon color.  There are no stains or leather dyes involved.  This has several benefits as there is no coloring that can rub off the leather and each bag is completely unique and one of a kind.  Unfortunately, during winter months, it can take a while to achieve these colors.  However, your patience will be rewarded with a beautiful color that cannot be re-produced or artificially manufactured.

Custom Staining

In addition to these colors we also make a custom staining pattern. This is done using our own mix of colors and applied in 4-6 layers. This process adds a unique color and depth to each bag as a perfect accent color. While we typically do this in a blue/gray color it can be created to any specification. There is an additional charge for this as a color option as it is labor intensive.

English Bridle Leathers

All our English Bridle Leathers come from Wickett & Craig, a US based tannery that produces some of the highest quality leathers available.  English Bridle Leather is slightly more refined and/or formal in style than our vegetable tanned leathers.

Water Buffalo

Water Buffalo is nearly indestructible.  This is a very dense leather so it does have more weight to it than the other leathers and is less suitable for daily carry or use for airplane based travel.  We use this leather primarily for field gear as it is naturally water resistant, durable, and can withstand a lot of abuse.  It is perfect for gun cases, hunting gear, gear bags.  I personally use this for my gear bags to hold my bird hunting gear as it can withstand water, mud, etc.
